* Yoga Class (By Nick Gibbs) *

Nick Gibbs has been practising yoga for 10 years and teaching for 2 years. A former professional bodyboarder and surfer from Byron Bay in Australia, he has great experience with developing a yoga practice that matches the specific needs of surfers. Nick completed teacher trainings with Yoga Arts in Bali (2005) and INSPYA Yoga (Byron Bay, Australia) in 2007. He practises a dynamic vinyasa style of yoga developed under his main teachers, Lance Schuler (INSPYA) and Liz Costigan (Byron Iyengar). He has taught at schools, rehab centres and with small groups, especially surfers, around the Byron Bay area, one of the most dynamic centres of Yoga worldwide.

Nicks’ teaching emphasize strength and alignment, combined with a focus on the breath, to achieve union in mind and body. He believes that Yoga can really be of use to surfers in maintaining balance in the body, maximizing energy and preventing injury.

Nick has visited G-Land 8 times since 2003 and finds it the ideal situation in which to practice a combined surfing and Yoga program. The demands of the waves are complemented perfectly by a Yoga program and the beautiful natural surroundings.

Daily Yoga Program :

at Dawn :
Sunrise meditation and Pranayama.
A sequence of breathing exercises and meditations to prepare for the day.

at 9 am session :
Energising Vinyasa sequence (flow/power yoga)
An energetic sequence to warm the body and stimulate flow of energy for the day’s surfing.

at 3 pm session :
Restorative practice (gentle Hatha yoga)
A slower sequence designed to re-balance the body and ‘work out the kinks’.
