G Land Surf Report by Jerad Moore

Hello everyone, Joyo’s Jungle Camp has reopened after the Quiksilver shutdown. Even though the  waves are small everyone is happy to be back out in the jungle. The ambitious ones have been running up to Kongs to get loads of uncrowded 2 footers. Some of the others are happy to have a days rest before we see some serious G Land! Everyone’s been keen to wake up early and partake in Killer Kimbo’s Yoga session. Everyone gets into it beginners to experts. Hope to see more of you out here soon. See ya next time.

G-LAND SURF/CAMP REPORT BY LINTON FAFIE (JUNE 2010)

G-Land 4th-5th JUNE 2010

Joyo’s G-land Camp reopens on the 13th June 2010

Ok guys, last report for the next week, as Quicksilver have came in and forced everyone  out for a little corporate get together.

Once again the last 3 days have been absolutely firing. Today was the perfect end to a perfect week of waves here in G-land, 6 surfers all up in camp, 25 through out the whole point! Today dishing out some 4-6fters over Moneys and the Fang, with all night off shores seeing the line up super groomed all day long. Yesterday we still had the odd 6ft plus one hitting The Pad with some insane barrels through Speedies.

The day before on other hands, (the same day continuing from the previous report) was another epic day of surfing, just the boys out once again with waves lining up all over the point! The end section down at Launch Pads and Speedies was heavy 6ft plus and shallow. A young booger staying at Bobby’s Camp from The States by the name of Kurt coming unstuck on a super long Speedies funnel! After hearing the screams for help from the big fella the sprint was on. Kimbo and myself first on the scene. As we paddled our arses off to get to him. Not knowing if it was serious or not, a cut to the head or just a little cramp in his leg, we arrived to one of the worst injuries to face while stuck in the Speedies impact zone. A compressed back. (Later finding out it was a fractured spine and 4 dislocated vertebras.)

Not knowing the extent of the injury, but hearing the pain in his screams we new it was bad. So keeping his back as flat as possible to stop any further injury I sunk my board underneath him laying him flat on his back for the journey back to shore. With such a strong current sweeping us off the reef the swim back to shore was long and intense. Luckily a couple of fellow surfers came to help. A good mate by the name of  Simon staying at Raymonds Camp could see we weren’t getting anywhere against this current and raced in to get a boat. As the boat dragged us to shore another fellow surfer raced to find  pain killers and doctors that were luckily staying through out the camps. Knowing that this was going to have to be a heli evacuation things had to happen fast.

With the quick thinking and help from everyone on this day, Doc. Blake,  Doc. Kimbo (different from the Kimbo who helped get him to shore) Brett, Stuey, all the local staff from all camps and anyone else who gave up an epic day of surfing to help out. Good old Kurt was evacuated out by chopper to BIMC ( Bali International Medical Center) with not even 5 minutes to spare.

:Luckily Kurt traveled with insurance which made all this possible, if not the big fella would be down a lot of money, just the chopper ride out cost a good us$10,000. So if anyone is intending a trip to G-land or even anywhere else in indo for that matter make sure you have insurance just incase that unexpected does happen.

On behalf of Kurt and myself I’d like to thank everyone that was involved and gave up an epic day of surfing (and when I say epic I mean EPIC) to help out a fellow surfer. Boogi boarder or Surfer it didn’t matter!!

Catch ya’s after the Qukky!!

YEW!

G-LAND 1ST- 3RD JUNE

The Pad!!

Ok, my fellow jungle lovers. I know, someone’s been a little lazy on the old surf report front over the last few days, but the truth of the matter is that the waves have been absolutely firing over the past 5 days. With 5-6 hours a day in the water, yoga in the mornings and drinking beer in the arvo’s, it’s hard to find time to sit in front of the computer.

The waves kicked in around last Sunday seeing some nice 3-4fters lining up the whole reef. Monday seen a few epic ones push down a little further towards Speedies with some of the boys scoring some really sick ones. Tuesday was absolutely bombing, with a slow start in the morning deterring a lot of crew back to Bali, around 1 o’clock it was like someone flicked a switch, wave after wave started hitting The Pad! For a good two hours as the tide was on its last legs I saw some of the best and heaviest Speedies I’ve seen for years. Solid 8ft plus on The Pad coming into funneling 5-6ft Speedies. One particular guy getting the wave of the day, pulling in at the start of Speedies and not coming out till he was way out of sight somewhere down the line near Quiksilvers. For some of you that don’t know that’s a good 20-30 second barrel, easy!! After a big night on the piss and a few crazy antics around camp best kept under raps, we awoke with more waves, as the direction changed a little more towards the west we now saw Money Trees lighting up. The crew hitting the line up early scoring the best of the day. Long waves, big walls and really uncrowded  as most people were waiting for the afternoon Speedies pulse. As this now was a dying swell and swell direction had slightly changed it didn’t really eventuate, maybe one or two but no where near like the pervious day!

Which now brings me to today, Thursday 3rd June, still waves.

After welcoming my bro Kimbo who is now taking over the roll of Yoga instructor from the beautiful Dana it was time to hit the mat before breaky! Kimbo might not be as pleasant to look at as the lovely Dana but when it comes to the odd stretch, boy do they both know a thing or two. Dana’s been running the Yoga classes out here for the past month doing one of the finest jobs ever, making us super limber for our day of surfing ahead. With crew coming from all camps its been hard to find a spare mat, and with this being Yoga Kims second year my guess is where gonna continue seeing those busy classes as yoga is one of the best things to do while waiting for these trades to kick in. So anyone arriving over the next month wanting to join in on Kim Kongs Super Yogathon, feel free. Throw ya mat in ya board bag, and come get ya Yoga On!

Ok dudes just got word that the waves are just turning on, so yeah gotta run!!

Stay Turned for all the updated behind the scenes news on the Quikky Crew taking over G-land over the up coming week!

Camp reopens on the 13th see ya then !! YEW!

G-LAND SURF/CAMP REPORT BY LINTON FAFIE (MAY 2010)

G-land , 27th May 2010

American Dave and The Doc!!

Waves have been good over the past 4 days, a little wobbly at times due to the close ness of the swells but with the mid tides , this west direction swell worked in our favor, keeping the waves at the top end of the reef around sections such as Kongs, Ledge and Money Trees. As the bottom sections around Speed Reef would have been way to shallow.

The late arvo sunset sessions have been the times to get amongst it, with Monday afternoon and yesterday, Wednesday arvo, being the best 2. Even hearing word on the streets of the jungle that Tiger Tracks had some super fun 4ft waves Monday and Tuesday with absolutely no one around.

With Wednesday being our scheduled departure day, we were about to lose some really cool crew, Timmy and Johnny the 2 kiwi boys who sweated it up on the pong table against the Russians, Eric our man behind the wheel of the Indies Trader 4 and a couple of crazy German guys who really laid it down for the rest of the community of German surfers out there! These boys really had a go, taking off on some solid bombs, late and pulling it off. Total respect! Good work lads! As this was there last night it was time for our first pool comp of the year.

As we smashed a few beers and a bit of dinner it was time to head back out to the new sunset arena known as Spe De Ta where we now have one of our pool tables set up along with a nice little bar with super cold beer.

The heats were called and the teams were set to do battle. Not knowing if it was the new table or just the fact we were all on our 15th beer but this comp was one of surprise and upset. The first being myself and Paul making it through our first heat against the germens, a feet that’s never been achieved by Paul or myself, we always seem to get knocked 1st heat. Second being the Kiwi boys taking out Dodo and Wawan, a close match but the Kiwi boys ended up pulling it off! Third was a big disappointment as the two best players in the comp, Jim Beam and Echo, were told to walk as American Dave and the Doc. were on fire. Jim Beam and Echo were out first round! Dana our gorgeous yoga teacher and Eric bummed out in there heat against the king of the tables Billy Banana and his partner Luke. But Billy Banana and Luke were soon stopped as the semi’s rolled round, American Dave and Doctor Andrew were on a winning streak. Paul and myself continued surprising ourselves as we just got one over the Kiwi lads. But unfortunately the surprising stopped right there. American Dave and the Doc’s winning streak was too strong! A close competition all round with American Dave and the Doctor walking away with the cash. As per usual the cash didn’t get to far, the boys putting pretty much all of it of it on the bar.

As we woke a little worst for wear it was time for good byes, the crew were back on the fast boat on route to bali. Docking around lunch time the boys will be arriving in kuta just in time for the arvo festivities.

Mean while back in the jungle, of whom that were left, were nursing hangovers awaiting the afternoon off shores and preparing for another epic week of surfing! Things are looking up out here at the moment, tomorrows showing signs of a nice new swell rolling in backed up with yet another. Tides are getting good and the trades are in full swing blowing all night long. Definitely not a bad call at all to head out this way in the next coming week. But keep in mind Quicksilver have all the camps booked out from the 6th June to the 13th, so if your wanting to hit the Gland anytime soon now’s the time!!

Look forward to seeing you soon

Peace!!

G-LAND , 21st-23rd MAY 2010

WHAT A NIGHT !

With the waves being smallish for G-land standards over the last couple of days. Smallish still being a good 4ft through Kongs and Fan Palms, even seeing the odd bigger one 2 arvos ago pushing down to Moneys and onwards through the Fang, one guest by the name of Dan who likes to sneak off from the pack and headed down that way towards the Fang scoring some of the best waves he had over the past week, just him and his mate. Everyone was taking it easy, hyping up for the insane week of swell that’s on the way.

The charts are showing a quick rise in the swell for today Monday 23rd, 4-5ft mid morning, 6ft by early afternoon and even scratching the 8ft range by late evening. Tuesday looks like a good 8ft in the morning before it slowly starts to decrease and hover around the 6ft mark from Wednesday onwards. This in mind most crew were off to bed early, trying to grab a nice nights sleep before a week of relentless tube riding!!

However, the sky above had other things in mind for us all.

“Looks like we might get some rain?” were the words to come out of Eric’s mouth, one of the Captains of the Indies Trader 4. With over 6 years of experience in the Mentawais growing up in the Bahamas, my guess is Eric knows his shit when he sees a tropical localized rain depression and holy shit was he right with this one!!

Not even 5 mins after Morning of the Earth finished, that’s right Morning of the Earth. That same classic acid flick from the early 1970’s was screening on the Australian Network Channel, out here in the depths of jungle, I couldn’t believe it either when it first came on! The heavens opened up! At first it was like, “aahhh, nothing like the pitter patter of rain drops to put you to sleep.” Then just like that the whole cloud must of fell on the whole of G-land. Not for a quick half an hour or so either. 2 o’clock in the morning it finished, 4 hours of the loudest, heaviest rain I have ever experienced! For the whole 4 hours it didn’t let up. It rained and rain and rained. One stage having to change beds as the ceiling started dripping right on my forehead.

What a night! Waking up in the morning the whole place looked like a lake, foot paths had washed away, bathrooms had flooded and even hearing word that half of Bobby’s Sunset area had been totally eroded. But the good thing about the stuff here at Joyo’s is, that they were straight onto it. Cleaning the place up, fixing the paths and over seeing what rooms did and did not with hold the night. Most rooms were great, with only the odd room, like my own sprouting the odd leak.

As the guest arrived to breakfast it was becoming more an more aware that no one really got that long relaxing sleep they intended! No big drama though the swell was still on the way and with 2 of Jim Beams honey and banana pancakes down your gob for this day ahead, you’ll have all the energy you’ll need!!

G-LAND, 20 – 21 MAY 2010

Paul Petrov

Walking down to the harbor for my usual 1st day meet and greet, which is one of the many important rolls you play as surf guide out here at Joyo’s G-land Surf Camp and many of you will find this out as you arrive over the next few weeks. Feeling a little hung over from the festivities of the night before, I was blessed to see a familiar face come stepping off the boat. There he was smiling bright eyed, with a grin from ear to ear and a big dirty Z shaped scab smack bang in the middle off his forehead! ‘Bout time you got yourself a bloody new hat!’ in a strong aussie accent were the first things to come out of his mouth! ‘Haha, bloody Paul Petrov!’ A G-land regular. ‘How you goin mate? And what the hell happened to your forehead??’ Well apparently a few nights earlier back at his house in Paul’s home town in Oz, he had a little cook up with friends and family, cracked a bottle of wine and some how woke up in the morning with a cracked forehead! This incident didn’t deter him one little bit, Paul Petrov is back in the jungle! And boy was everyone feeling it!

Paul’s one of those happy go lucky kind of characters, a kid trapped in a mans body. Just being around the big fella puts you in a good mood! By mid morning everyone was walking around with a smile, Paul’s was with him all day long, at one stage even catching him snoozing with a big dirty grin.

It could have been the fact that on this day especially G-land absolutely lit up! Every single section of reef was on fire from Kongs to the end of Speedies. A good 6ft with only a hand full of guys out! It might have been the fact that over the last 3 days everyone’s been surfing for at least 4 hours a day and this day was the icing on the cake. Or it just could have been the fact that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and it was just one of tho’s magic G-land days. But what ever the case or scenario it was on this day, along with Paul’s our smiles weren’t going anywhere.

From the land of the living!

G-LAND, 18 – 19 MAY 2010

UPDATE

Quick update dudieroonies from the depths of the jungle,

The winds have turned off shore, the waves have kicked in and the sun is shinning!

Things are looking up for sure. Kongs yesterday had some really fun ones through out the afternoon, and now with the swell swinging a little bit more to the south the whole point is starting to light up. Wouldn’t even be surprised if we see a few little ones sneaking down through Speedies over the next 2 days!

Trip leaving tonight, so get on it!!

YEW!

Lint Dogg!!

G-LAND, 15th – 16th MAY 2010

PAIN

Some would say getting stabbed in the eye with a flaming spear is quite painful.

Well for me that hasn’t exactly happened.

Yes I’ve been shot in the head with a five prong Hand Spear, but the pain from that was no where near the pain I felt yesterday as I watched all the elements come together, a nice 2 meter plus high tide, perfect 4-6ft swell with minimal punters through out all the camps, it was lining up to be one of the funnest Speedies so far!

But this was all to be flushed down the gurgullar by a devil of a death wind blowing from the North making it cross on shore straight into the tube. This made it extremely bumpy and absolutely impossible to surf anywhere along the whole point. But with predictions of a South East trade meant to come through after lunch it gave us hope, so we sat and waited….

….And waited……

….And waited! We watched what would have been screamers come through if it was not for the wind, we watched the tide slowly spill up over the reef and back again and we watched that Northerly death wind get stronger and stronger!

12 o’clock, 1 o’clock, now 2 o’clock. It was now certain that the off shore was not going to come, if anything the death wind was getting stronger…

….Then just like that, as 2:30 rolled around, ‘’CRACK!” The first Bintang was open! What would of, could of but didn’t eventuate didn’t really matter anymore. Sitting here at Joyo’s new and improved sunset hang out, formally known as Spe De Ta ‘an equivalent jungle version of the infamous Ku Da Ta back in Seminyak’, with a beer in hand, that on shore death wind blowing through our hair and the tunes pumping. Mate, life doesn’t get much better than this! Hell, there’s always tomorrow right!

I’m not going to lie to you guys, the weather and waves have been absolutely horrendous the past few days, flat, on shores and heaps of rain. This day was to be our savior but it didn’t happen. As this weather system moves off towards Australia I feel confident that were going to see the official start of the dry season. Good swells, good weather and day in day out off shores. This next week is shaping up to be a cracker and with not to many people around its definitely a good time to hit the G!

Look forward to seeing you crew soon!

YEW! Get ya froth on!!

Signing out!

Linshlong dong Linton!!!

G-LAND, 12th-14th May 2010

GAME ON!

With the swell slowly dying out over the last three days and the odd on shore coming up around midday, there’s been high demand for the pong table!

Even though the afternoon offshores along with low tide have been producing some nice 3-4fters through Moneytrees, Kongs dishing out some super long rides and even a sneaky little barrel over Speedies yesterday morning, no one could really look past the action on the the Pong Table two nights ago!

It was hit for hit, it was point for point, it was intense and it was sweaty! It was two Russian girls in bikinis thrashing a couple of kiwi boys Johnno and Tim in the main match of the night! Not knowing if it was from the extreme intensity of the game, or just the fact the girls had an amazing rack that jiggled on every movement of every breath but the attention of the whole camp was definitely drawn to this match! Not a big achievement as there is only about 13-15 people in camp at the moment but still an achievement in itself as the boys put up one hell of a fight!!

So on that note, with the little numbers in camp, good tides and new swell on the way. This next week is looking good! All we need now is these winds to sort them selves out and we could have one of the first pumping weeks of the year!

From the depths of the jungi fungi, Game On brothers!

Lint Dogg!! YEW!

Shorey Corey has left the Building!

Big Shlong Linton is Back!

After a long and prosperous journey from the not so deserted point known as Bunko Bunko, missing the 6 o’clock ferry thanx to old mate Derman the German Backpacker leaving his snorkel and goggles at our previous accommodation and having to wait 2 hours for the next one. We arrived into kuta around 2 am  which gave me just enough time to visit a good lady friend of mine to catch up on cookies and cuddles before making my way to the G-land office a couple of hours later to jump on the fast boat at 5:30am.

Across the channel and around the point, I was walking into breakfast no later then 8am java time. (If you have the coin and not the time the fast boat is definitely the only way to travel to the jungle). Walking into camp the crew were all there, Bobo with some really long hair, WeWe making tea, Echo doin his thing, JB making the meanest breakfast you’ve ever known and Dodo waiting to take us to our rooms.

After catching up with Corey and getting filled in with the previous weeks antics, the big man was out of here.

Big Shorey Corey has left the Building, time to take the reins as surf guide for the next month. But first things first, I’m goin to go have a little snooze!!

Waking up a good 5-6 hours later, the waves were pretty much pumping! Nice low tide, 4ft money trees! With a hand full of punters out, a perfect trade blowing the crew and I surfed all the way till dark! Definitely a perfect afternoon to kick off my G-land season.

Stay tuned for all the latest and greatest shenanigans to come out of the jungle in the next month and a half! Look forward to seeing you all here!

Signing out!

G-LAND SURF/CAMP REPORT (MAY 2010)

G-LAND, 08 MAY 2010

Jungi Fungi Junkies

Hello Jungi Fungi Junkies, twas another bubbling blistering day here in the jungle. The swell has increased at the rate of a jungi fungi outbreak, except it is a little less consistent or persistent. A lot of the original jungi fungi junkies have checked out, clearing the way for a whole new camp load unsuspecting guests/victims.

Oblivious, new arrivals have enjoyed an increase in swell with stiff offshore winds… The swell has changed direction from yesterday hitting further up the reef at fungaltrees and fungpalms. This direction suits the current tides as there would be limited water if it was directed at speedies.

Alas, it seems that the internet has again been optimistic without due cause…of course it did pick up but not as much as expected and has been coming in pulses with long lulls which seem to be mainly experienced by yours truly. Other Punters on the other hand have had more reason to celebrate scoring some solid sets, keeping a smile on the dial.

Until next time, wish me more luck for tomoz as I’m literally hanging out of my skin to get a couple.

Sampai jumpa lagi… Cory

Hi to all from the G-land Jungle (06 May 2010)

Jungle mayhem has ceased for the time been with the departure of Dr Evil, but the plague persists and its victims grow in numbers. On the positive front, the sun finally stayed out for long periods in the last few days and the wind remained consistently offshore. This along with a mediam swell has ensured all punters have been more than satisfied with the waves on offer out the front of late.

Today the swell dropped a little and was less consistant but some good waves were still on offer. The sun was shining and it was a nice offshore making perfect conditions considering the size of the swell. Looks as though there is a bit of hope for the weekend as the swell should bump again.

Cheers Cory

“Rumble in the Jungle” (G-Land, 05 May 2010)

Reporting in from the South Eastern tip of Java, where we have all been recovering from a mammoth party.. That being the end of the Surfing Doctors conference, and closing ceremony.

Needless to say the boat trip out this morning had a full contingent of nauseas punters. Yesterday we were finally rewarded with some solid juice, with clean lines pouring in onto the launching pad and reeling off down the line via that twisted old snake we all know as the cobra.. In the line up there were numerousa distractions including the one and only “Daddy Cool” who had the wave whistle firmly in his cool paws, providing endless entertainment. Another loose punter was none other than “Storming” Norman and his imaginary friend yosemite sam.

The rest of the crew in the water were relatively well behaved, apart from the bug-eyed bow legged man who proceeded to pull a strategic move on Dr Evil, inducing a ballism of abuse, which flowed for a while.

Back in the camp and back to our title the rumbling occured during the closing ceremony was of epic proportions complete with beer bongs, gut sliding slippy slides, leading the charge was none other than Dennis the menace, backed up by our highly innebriated AT Brown, the only casualties that were sustained was a minor elbow laceration, the victim being none other than our resident geezer Alex Turner.. Excellent effort.

In closing we bid you farewell from a hungover and detached crew.
Adios Amoebas

Eurotrash Vs Kamikaze Invincible Man
(G-land, 02 May 2010)

Well folks, here we are again! Lurking in the stinking humidity of the jungle.  Today we experienced a slight drop in the swell and a slight rise in the insanity level. To add to the general aura of chaos we had a number of special specimens in the water. First off, the spanish surfing armada with no idea and absolutely zero skill, zero manners, and narcissistic tendencies. Seoncdly we had a gentle-man in hotpants who created quite a disturbance in the line up.

This including nausea, vomiting and hilarity. Thirdly and finally, we had Mr INVINCIBLE.  His super-hero outfit included a bright yellow helmet with visor, a full 5mm wetsuit, a tow-in flotation vest, gloves and booties. We all agreed that the next step would have been a sumo suit ( usually kept aside for mindsurfing low-tide 10 foot speedies).

Back to the SurfDocs conference, where information and froth have combined into a strange fungal mixture.  Needless to say Dr Dennis the Menace is leading the charge. Closely followed by a loose unit of medical students includining Alex The Geezer, Angus the sheep shagger, AT Brown, Mike Froodi and Prissy Chrissy.  Epic presentations went down today with Big Red Jim Parko OAM and Dave Buzz-saw carving up the pulpit. The audience was impressed.

We are holding our breath and all of our fungi infected appendages in anticipation of further epic talks, some serious juice, and time behind the curtain…..Yew!

Signing off your trusty reporters Dr Simon-double barrel-Campbo, Dr Loose PC, and Surf Guide Corey (wouldn’t mind a shorey!)

By Dr. Simon Campbell

“Jungle / fungal update !”
(G-land, 01 May 2010)

Well folks we have had a few interesting days here in the Jungle . We have had some surf , but the land action has been the main show for sure . First off we had a minor outbreak of ” Jungi Fungi ” . This rare conundrum of a disease that has been spotted on various appendages , say no more !!

Out in the surf we have had all sorts of colourful crew , including the ” High speed hula -hooping pygmy ” who showed us all how to mince around the sections of the tastey break know as Hula – Hoops !! Also spotted was the ” Copper – coated barrel riding cosmic poet , riding his super lite epoxoy speed machine …all time . On land we have had the bug – eyed pot bellied pastey bull frog , hoping into everyones face , and exuding a strange sweat-like substance , similar to the sexiest beast in the jungle at present , known as the ” Yougurt extractor ” ..although no immediate extraction has taken place , the cheeky taunting continues , and we expect the good old ” Yogurt Truck ” to crash soon !!

Well , back to the surf , which has been somewhat lacklustre , and inconsistent . Yesterday was a fizzer really , in that the expected juice did not come pumping down the reef , leaving us all frustrated and in need of extra Bintangs . It did not really even get up to the 6ft mark . Today was certainly no bigger , with a dwindling swell of 3ft , which ended up being sucked out by the full moon tide , leaving us all high and dry .

In closing , the Surfdocs conference has been cruising along in fine style , with some solid daily lectures going down , and some solid performances at the bar .  So to break it down , there has generally been more action on land than at sea ….such is life here in this torpid jungle heat …signing off …

G-LAND SURF REPORT BY CORY APRIL 2010

Surf Report for 21st April

Today the predicted swell arrived and there was some solid waves to be had at Moneytrees. The wind was not offshore but was very light for most of the day offering some good rides and even the odd tube. later in the day the wind turned onshore as has been happening regularly lately.

Surf Report for 22nd April

Today the swell increased and was again hitting Moneytrees. The conditions were better than yesterday but still not perfect because the wind was light but not offshore. That being said there was a definite improvement on the conditions we had of late. There is a chance of good waves again tommorrow as the swell should only drop slightly.

G-Land Surf Report April 2010 by CORY

Surf and camp report for 20th April 2010

The conditions were again average today with heavy rain and mixed wind…. Although a couple of waves were ridden by the few keen punters. On the positive side Dr Jim arrived to fulfill all medical requirements, and Dana our resident yoga instructor was also a welcome addition to the Camp. With a forecast increase in swell tomorrow arvo things are on the up if the offshore kicks in.

Happy Surfing Dong

Ayo …CORY (Surf Guide)

Surf Guide Report 19th April 2010

Whilst the swell is still hanging around at G-land the wind was onshore again today. So it was another day of alternate activities on offer at the camp i.e Billiards, ping pong, relaxation and an afternoon Bintang or or 2 was the call for the day.

The wind did swing offshore at about 4.30 pm so there was an hour of clean waves to be had for the keen and observant guests. The crowds are still mellow and there is hope for better conditions tomorrow after the late afternoon offshore today.

Again, fingers crossed for some improved conditions tomorrow.

Ayo… Sampai Jumpa …CORY

Surf report for the past 4 days

The 14th of april 2010 saw an increase in swell with some solid waves on offer at Launching Pad and Speedies. The conditions improved as the true season felt like it had arrived, but the winds were still not perfect, making wave choice important at this serious section of the reef. It was not onshore or offshore but the lack of wind that deemed it less than perfect and therefore dangerous…. Although of course there was some special moments to be had.

The following day had similar conditions but on a smaller scale with the swell decreasing overnight. The weather had cleared so there was hope for some offshore trade winds in the near future.

Unfortunately Today and yesterday the conditions and weather took a turn for the worst. Strong onshore Westerly winds that had been forecast certainly did arrive and brought with storms and intermediate rain. The swell actually picked up today but surfing conditions less than ordinary.

All in all there has been no lack in swell but just as the trades seemed as though they might kick in they did the opposite and blew even harder.

Hopefully after these stormy conditions we see some consistent offshore winds as there is swell predicted toward the end of the week.

Fingers crossed all goes to plan.

Ayo. Cory
